If you believe in meritocracy, at least consider that code is not the only thing of merit.
Kind: Notes
Hmm, my syndication to Mastodon has started being wrapped in div tags with an id of e-content all of a sudden – where’s that coming from? I think the only thing to change recently is the Micropub endpoint. I’ll try downgrading and see if that makes any difference.
A friend described to me that the idea of the great American novel is all about the difficult task of trying to define what it means to be ‘American’, in such a vast and diverse country.
Confirm shaming. One of the dark patterns of UI.
“No thanks, I don’t want to live in eternal joy”
Test note from Indigenous with latest Micropub endpoint.
Testing a note post with new Micropub endpoint, from micropublish.
Testing after update to Worpdress Micropub 2.0 from Github.
Some easy bike maintenance tips from the guy from Cycleworks:
- clean your chain about once a fortnight, any gunk that accrues will stretch the chain out over time
- use a track pump and pump your tyres up to the recommended amount once a week or so, will reduce chance of punctures
- check the brakes are ‘going’ together, that neither is sitting on the rim of the wheel, adjust the springs if not
- from time to time, check there’s no give in the pedal cranks or headset
At the manual sorting part of the tour of the recycling facility, the guide said “robots will never be able to replace the vision and dexterity of the human sorters”.
Things from the tour:
- starts off with bag splitters
- disc sorters to separate cardboard and paper out
- manual sorting to get as much plastic film out as possible, it clogs up the machines
- magnet sorter to get the aluminium cans outs (kind of looks like jumping salmon)
- optical sorter uses some kind of visual recognition and little jets of air to separate out plastic bottles
Everything is separated out into separate materials, and baled up before being sent (for cash) somewhere to use.
