Absolutely loving laravel so far. All the nice architectural features of MVC I was familiar with from ASP.NET MVC, along with all the handy CLI and framework tools you’d get with rails or django.
Kind: Notes
Some helpful instructions here https://laravel-news.com/valet-for-ubuntu-linux, but I got an error during valet install trying to install nginx – think I’ll leave it for now.
Hmm, maybe. Seems to require use of nginx which I’m not familiar with. Could be a good time to learn though.
OK, so is it worth trying to get Valet set up on Linux?
Odd issue where I had to run php artisan key:generate in order to get things working. Maybe because it’s 5.5 instead of 5.4 which is used in the videos? Love the debug page for Laravel though with its links to a pre-populated stackoverflow search.
Playing around with Laravel using the Laracasts intro. Very cool so far. Easy setup with composer.
#jomo. The joy of missing out. Delayed gratification. The pleasure of having a good friend tell you about something they experienced.
This should mean publishing and syndicating via Quill works now too!
I guess the hardline approach of ‘only backlinks’ could be considered a feature actually. It would mean Mega Social Corp has no real knowledge of your content, just the links back to your site. So you put up a barrier to your data being opportunisticly scraped, but you still tap in to the social network effect of the big silos while it’s monopolised there (assuming the awkward format doesn’t stop people from reading what you post…)
Fixed an issue in shpub and one in Bridgy WP plugin and now got Twitter syndication via micropub via my WP site (kind of) working! (Kind of, as the note that appears on Twitter is just a link back to my site for some reason. That’s the next issue to look at…)
