I used to follow individual accounts from Twitter using granary (https://doubleloop.net/2019/03/12/following-twitter-peeps-in-an-indiereader-with-granary-io-and-microsub/), however I realised from discussion with Ryan (https://snarfed.org, who makes granary.io) that doing that puts unnecessary load on granary and your microsub server. However, doing it via twitter ‘lists’ is OK.

The ferry was a fun experience, but I think I’d probably go with Eurostar next time. Aside from it just being good fun, my rationale with the ferry was that going overnight I’d get more time each day and save on accommodation, but in reality you spend so much time getting to/from the ferry terminal, and you get woken up so early on the ferry anyway you could just as easily get a really early train and it’d work out roughly the same.
I installed Matthias’ WordPress ActivityPub plugin and initial tests suggest that it works great – to the extent that I think I’m going to set it up on my main site when I get chance.
I’ll write some full blog posts about Utrecht and my hack day project when I get some downtime.

Looking forward to checking out Rotterdam. Second biggest city in Holland after Amsterdam, with Utrecht being the 4th. Interested to see the contrast between the two.
Rotterdam suffered the most during WWII, so I expect the architecture will be more modern. Probably a more urban, less bohemian vibe. Let’s see!
Also I believe some parts of Rotterdam are 6m below sea level, so I imagine there will be a lot of dykes (somewhere)
- learn more about the IndieAuth building block by trying to add the token access flow to my Emacs Micropub client
- investigate WordPress ActivityPub as another approach to bridging to the Fediverse
- fix my Micropub media endpoint which is currently getting an error returned from Indigenous
- write a blog post about IWC Utrecht 🙂
I went to sessions on IW building blocks and WordPress; privacy and sharing of personal data; federated search; other projects like Solid and how they overlap; and discovering content. Lots of ideas and so many interesting people.
And today with immaculate timing an article about IndieWeb popped up in the New Yorker: https://www.newyorker.com/tech/annals-of-technology/can-indie-social-media-save-us
